06/24/09: The Madrigrano Center had a beauty day at the club and then members had their photos taken in a Beauty Shots photo shoot. Check out the Photo shoot Gallery.


06/23/09:Kaleidoscopes with the Kenosha Public Library- June 23rd Linda Potter from the Kenosha Public Library came to the Madrigrano Center to read books with members. She also showed us how to create pocket Kaleidoscopes.  Members used small film containers and sequins and other jewels to create their own kaleidoscopes. Thanks to the Kenosha Public library for showing us this fun craft.

 


06/22/09:Kenosha Public Library Bookmobile- All summer members of the Boys and Girls Club Madrigrano Center will have access to books from the Kenosha Public Library as the Kenosha Bookmobile stops outside the club every Monday afternoon. Members can check books out with their own cards and also read books from the Madrigrano Center for our summer book club and reading program.

 

06/20/09:CEDAR Environmental Project- On Saturday, June 20, the Center for Environmental Education, Demonstration, and Applied Research (CEDAR) had an open house at the Historic Southport Beach House, 7825 1st Avenue. The day included beach volleyball, music by Pickin’ Up Speed, a chalk art and sand castle contests, environmental exhibits, and eco activities. On display, were a Feng Shui garden created by the Madrigrano Center and recycled birdfeeders, woven tree branch catchers, and compost by our Boys and Girls Club KUSD CLC sites.


 

06/19/09:Madrigrano Center Member Magic Show- June 19th, talented members of the Madrigrano center put on a magic show. They amazed the audience with fantastic card tricks, cutting a monkey in half, making predictions come true, turning water into ice, and even making someone disappear. 06/09/09:Madrigrano Center Garden- The Madrigrano Center has started a great vegetable garden thanks to Boys and Girls Club partner Gateway Technical College horticulture student Barbara Suchy. Members have planted tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, onions, watermelon and we’ve even planted some peanuts and popcorn! Check out our garden gallery throughout the summer to see how our garden grows.


 

06/05/09:Madrigrano Center End of the Year Awards- On June 5th, 2009 the Madrigrano Center honored members in an end of the year celebration. Miss Racine, our games room specialist Sha-Nita Rhea presented members with their awards. Pictured below are this year’s award winners; most improved went to Atkeem, Laura, and Raina, Club Clown was awarded to Paris, Keke, Joey, and Alysia, Miss Sassy went to Tijaunda and D’Avyon, Mr. Swag went to Demarcus, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins went to D’Angelo and Alysia. The winners of our Caught in the Act contest went to Renica, Kamry, and Cherell who were caught being kind and helpful the most in the club. Finally, Madrigrano Center member of the Year went to Kamry Hicks for overall good behavior, helpfulness, and being a positive role model to his peers. 05/22/09:
This year’s CLC All Site Talent Show was held on Wednesday, May 20th.  We had a total of 21 performances ranging from singing, to dancing, to double dutch, to gymnastics and tae kwon do demonstration.  We had over 100 kids in attendance and around 60 parents.  Here are some pictures of the winners below.

05/16/09: Members of BGC Kenosha Madrigrano Center traveled to Sheboygan on Saturday to participate in the 2009 Brat Town Challenge, a recreational competition for a variety of ages. They competed against clubs in Sheboygan County, Winsconsin Rapid, Fond du Lac, Fox Valley, Wausau, Oshkosh, and Barron City. The Madrigrano Center won FIRST PLACE in the overall competition!! Our members placed in several of the events. They received 2nd place in Cherry Pool(10-12), 2 Ball(10-12), and Memory; 3rd place in the obstacle course; and 1st place in carpetball(10-12), Boys & Girls Club Trivia, Dodgeball, and 2 ball (age 13-15). And they had a lot of fun besides!


05/07/09: Firefighters from Station 4 here in Kenosha came to the Madrigrano Center on Wednesday, May 6th and they brought their fire engine with them! Members were able to try on a firefighter uniform, which was so heavy some were barely able to keep from falling over. They also got a tour of the fire engine with all it's hoses, fire safety, and rescue equipment. Thank you Firestation 4!!!

             

After the firefighters came, members of the Madrigrano Center made a card to thank Firestation 4 for taking the time to come see us at the club.


The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha Capital/Endowment Campaign

Mayor Keith Bosman and County Executive Jim Kreuser will chair the Boys & Girls Club begins Capital/Endowment Campaign. Local and Business Leaders to add support.
 
The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha has announced that Mayor Keith Bosman and County Executive Jim Kreuser have agreed to chair the agency's Capital/Endowment Campaign. The club is anticipating building a new center at a centralized location to house their afterschool and weekend activities for children along with programs and activities for families and seniors. The effort was given a head start last year when former Mayor John Antaramian placed $5 million in TIF funds into the project. The total project cost is expected to be $13 million.
