It’s hard to learn and grow when you’re hungry.
Over 20,000 meals were served through the Summer Food Service Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program annually. With participation in this program we are able to provide a full meal that consists of a meat/meat alternative, two fruits and/or vegetables, a grain and milk.
Power Hour gives parents peace of mind during out-of-school time by providing Club members with; Academic and homework support. Safe and positive learning environments. Partnership in preparing youth for college and career.
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.
Designed specifically to help youth and teens with homework, this program is available after school at our Club. Our dedicated youth development professionals and volunteers supervise each session and help our youth members complete their assignments for the day. When they finish their work, they may choose to participate in a variety of other engaging and educational activities to develop their skills even further.
Power Hour is a great opportunity for youth and teens to get their homework completed in a quiet place with support from trained, caring staff at a Boys & Girls Club.
Each year, 1 in 5 high school students fails to graduate on time.
The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha’s “BE GREAT: Graduate” program helps teen Club Members who are at-risk of dropping out of school and not graduating to develop the academic, behavioral, and social skills needed to be successful. The program pairs Club Members with a Graduation Coach who develops a one-on-one relationship with that youth. They employ a strength-based approach, teach problem-solving skills, and promote school-parent relationships.
High school-age Club members report higher levels of abstention from high-risk behaviors, such as smoking, drinking alcohol and marijuana use, than do their non-Club counterparts.
“Since 2008 when we instituted the youth employment program there has been a 72% reduction in juvenile crime in Kenosha during summer months.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha’s Healthy Lifestyles program, called Triple Play, is designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club Experience.
Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul is the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha’s proven health and wellness program that emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being. Triple Play makes the connections with youth and teens to promote the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition through the program’s three components: mind, body and soul.
Healthy Habits (Mind) is for ages 6 to 15 and addresses the ways an individual’s health behaviors are influenced by personal beliefs and exposure to positive modeling. In addition to nutrition education, activities focus on helping youth assess, practice, identify, consider, and recognize health behaviors and messages.
Daily Challenges (Body) is an intentional focus on physical literacy: Ability – Increasing capability in basic movement skills and overall fitness; Confidence -the knowledge of the ability to play sports or enjoy other physical activities and Motivation- the intrinsic enthusiasm for physical activity for members to be physically active for life.
Social Recreation (Soul) put an emphasis on social and emotional development, or the social, cognitive, and behavioral skills that youth need to be healthy and productive. There is an explicit focus on emotional regulation, healthy relationships (with self and others), and responsible decision-making.
Other healthy lifestyle programs the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha have are our SMART Girls and Passport to Manhood programs which help our youth members build self-esteem, treat others with respect, and make good choices.
SMART Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls in three agegroups, spanning ages 8 to 18.
Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior. Each participant receives a “passport” to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth.
On average, over 500 youth participate daily at the Club in educational and sports programming!
Our Youth of the Year initiative promotes and recognizes young people who have overcome tremendous obstacles, and excelled in academic performance and community service.

In a Harris Interactive survey, 57% of Boys & Girls Club alumni said the Club “saved my life.”
