Major responsibility is to oversee the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, work readiness, and special events for teens. Additional responsibilities include the oversight of teen center staff and department budgets.

Teen Center Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with department staff, provide a variety of programming options reflective of the BGC Teen Program, ensuring that teens have the opportunity to participate in activities representative of all BGC core program areas: arts, education, leadership and life skills, sports, fitness and recreation, and technology. Programming may take the form of daily activities, projects, multi-week programs, and clubs.  The Director will also run individual programs, activities, trips, etc.
  • Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the facility as deemed appropriate.
  • Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff from other Club departments as well as with staff from other Boys & Girls Clubs and community organizations as appropriate.
  • Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluations including BGCA’s annual evaluation Commitment to Quality.
  • Orient, train and supervise department staff (including interns, junior staff, and volunteers). Provide annual performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner.
  • Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s).


  • Supervise, hire, train and evaluate staff for the Teen Center.
  • Manage the supervision, training, and scheduling of volunteers.
  • Create a healthy and safe environment; making certain facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
  • Identify and implement training and development opportunities for all staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including ADA, program and event participation, and grant/contract reporting.


Strategic Planning

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the departments’ overall programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member’s needs and interests.
  • Establish annual membership goals for each program.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet membership goals.
  • Submit required reports and documentation as requested.


Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develop strategies to increase visibility of Club programs, services and activities to the community.
  • Submit PR requests to Director of Operations to promote programming.



  • Ensure a team based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers and volunteers.
  • Make recommendations regarding member’s needs, program ideas, and facility needs.
  • Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff, program staff, and train staff on organizational mission, program objectives and standards.
  • Have regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.


  • Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the Club.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Represent BGC on appropriate committees.
  • Attend required BGC and BGCA training and meetings.
  • Manage or participate in special BGC programs and events.
  • Drive Club van when needed.
  • Consult with parents concerning member issues.
  • Approve all purchases of supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and implement a specific guidance and discipline plan.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year supervisory experience.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising teen programming and/or youth empowerment programs.
  • Knowledge of trends in recreation activities, community service and leadership activities for teens.
  • Demonstrate ability in personnel and facility supervision, and the recruitment and retention in key personnel.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and web competency.
  • Ability to effectively manage budgets and control expenses.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.
  • Support Club fundraising events.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with youth, parents, and community leaders.
  • Driver’s License, good driving record, and personal liability insurance required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
