Job Hours:

Monday-Thursday 2:00pm-8:00pm

Fridays 2:00pm – 6:00pm

Non-school days/Holidays 12:00pm – 5:00pm

Primary Function:

Responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of programs within the Teen Center with a primary concern for the Core Program Areas of Career & Education Development, Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, and The Arts with assistance and input from the Director of Teen Services.

Position Responsibilities:

Prepare Youth for Success:

  • Ensure programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times.
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members.

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Oversee day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals, insuring the health and safety of members at all times in absence of Director of Teen Services.
  • Grant tracking following established guidelines of Grantors.
  • Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of programs; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit, and that Club equipment is maintained in good working conditions.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and supplies. Recommend purchases.

Supervision:

  • Schedule and monitor work assigned to program staff and volunteers.
  • Provide program staff and volunteers ongoing feedback.
  • Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned program staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including membership, activities and events conducted. Breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.

Strategic Planning:

  • Assist Director of Teen Services in planning, organizing and implementing a range of program services and activities for drop in members.
  • Initiate new programs.
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships for program collaborations.
  • Establish strategies that promote and stimulate program participation.

Additional Responsibilities:

    • Work with Director of Teen Services in planning special programs and events such as Youth of the Year, Member & Staff Recognition, Contests and Grant implementation.
    • May be required to drive the Club van.
    • Consult with parents concerning member and Club issues.

Relationships:

Internal:  Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

External:  Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member’s parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • Ability to effectively operate a computer and programs used by the Club.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability working with youth, parents, and community leaders.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications-will provide training if needed.
  • Driver’s license and good driving history required.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

    • Ability to walk, stand, sit and climb stairs.
    • Possess an adequate level of manual dexterity and sense of balance.
    • Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
    • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
