TITLE: Baseball/Softball Umpire
REPORTS TO: Sports Department
SALARY: $12.00 per hour
JOB HOURS: September-Mid October, Monday-Wednesdays Nights

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Officials will officiate and maintain control of game by enforcing rules of each sport. Explain and enforce rules, assess penalties if needed, signal proper mechanics, and always present a positive representation of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha.
- Serve as a resource by providing accurate and current information regarding baseball and softball programming rules, policies, and procedures
- Officiate youth sports leagues, specifically baseball and softball
- Check fields for any safety hazards
- Arrive 15 minutes before game time
- Remain unbiased while officiating and avoid verbal contact with parents/spectators
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work with others and give/take direction
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and positively with youth, parents, sports staff and volunteers
- Ability to bookkeep and operate all scoreboards used by the club
- Maintain a positive, cooperative, and customer service oriented attitude that enhances a fun work environment; wear staff apparel, maintain a professional atmosphere
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with set up and tear down of baseball and softball
- Assist with Sports Department staff with cleaning the diamonds after being used
- Communicate and direct any issues, questions, or concerns to the Sports Department staff on duty

Internal:
- Ensure a team based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers and volunteers
- Make recommendations regarding youth’s needs, program ideas, and facility needs
External: Ensure a positive attitude and representation of the Boys & Girls Club while on and off the field
SKILL/KNOWLEDGE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be 16 years old or older
- Knowledge of baseball and softball rules and regulations
- Good decision making skills
- Ability to deal with conflict resolution
- Ability to work in a timely manner (including starting, stopping and maintaining the scheduled game times)
- Ability to walk, stand, sit and climb stairs
- Possess an adequate level of manual dexterity and sense of balance
- Possess good near distance acuity (20 feet or less), far distance acuity (more than 20 feet), three dimensional depth perception and color distinction
- Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
