Gateway Technical College Hosts Wellness Fair for Boys & Girls Club Youth and Tween Center Members
Kenosha, WI – February 18, 2019 – Last Friday, Club members visited Gateway Technical College to do hands on learning activities as part of the Wellness Fair field trip. Dozens of GTC students prepared lessons for kids and led small groups in an activity related to their discipline.
Nursing students taught members about germs, sanitation and healthy eating. Barbering students helped kids cut hair off mannequins and led a shaving station using balloons. Vet techs taught kids the behaviors of dogs and how to approach them. Cosmetology students gave the young ladies manicures, and the Physical Therapist Assistant program students conducted several exercises and fitness-related games with the kids. Members even got dental exams and fluoride treatments. The activities planned by Gateway students were engaging, age appropriate and fun for the members.
“The Club has partnered with Gateway Technical College on this Wellness Fair for more than 12 years in an effort to get youth to think about their overall wellness,” said Chanice Lohman, Youth Services Coordinator at BGCK. “The fair has been a creative way to get youth to think about careers in health care as well. It’s a great event that we love being a part of.”
“The excitement of the annual Boys & Girls Club Wellness Fair brings a new energy to the Gateway Kenosha campus,” said Gateway Technical College President and CEO, Dr. Bryan Albrecht. “We are proud to partner with our community to bring career awareness and lifelong knowledge and skills to the participating Club students.”
