Boys & Girls Club’s Young at Heart Gala Showcased Talented Members & Community Impact

Melvin Gordon Received the Mary Frost-Ashley Patron Saint Award for Outstanding Dedication to the BGCK

Kenosha, WI – October 2, 2018 – This past Saturday, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha hosted its signature fundraising event of the year, the Young at Heart Gala presented by Sports Physical Therapists, at Uline Corporate Headquarters. The event drew over 250 guests and raised the most funds from any single event in Club history.

Highlights of the evening included performances by youth and teen members, a speech by Youth of the Year, Ja’len Webster, behind the scenes videos showcasing Club programs, a live auction, an ice sculpture, a performance by Comedy Mentalist Sean Bott, and a video award presentation to Club alumni, Melvin Gordon III.

Melvin Gordon III was awarded the 2018 Mary Frost Ashley Patron Saint Award, the Club’s most prestigious annual award recognizing the most instrumental supporters of the BGCK. The award dates back to 1998 and includes dozens of Kenosha families that have given their time and their treasure to help the Boys & Girls Club serve and reach more children.

Out of all players in the NFL, Gordon was named the Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP in recognition of his great involvement of the community. Gordon often visits the Club when he is home to spend time with members. The Gordon family has also made significant financial contributions over the years. Not only is Gordon doing great things in Kenosha, but he recently started the Beyond the Flash Foundation, whose mission is to provide economically challenged students with educational opportunities and resources to succeed, and to support inner-city and low-income children throughout Los Angeles who struggle with hunger.

The Club would like to thank all sponsors and individual donors who supported this event, and continually support Club members. Without such a strong, generous community, the Club would not be able to support the kids who need it the most.

Funds from this event directly support Club members by helping to keep the membership cost to families at just $20 per year per child. The Club continues to offer free transportation after school from nine area elementary schools via Gus the Bus, and just re-opened a school based after school program, the Laken Family Jefferson Elementary Extension.

The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha is a youth guidance organization dedicated to promoting health, social, educational, vocational, cultural, character and leadership development. The Club helps youth improve their lives by building skills, values and self-esteem. When you support the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, you support the kids who need us the most and their great futures ahead. Visit to donate today.
