Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Amazon Partner to Provide STEM Programming
Kenosha, WI – August 10, 2020 – How youth and teens spend their time outside of school matters. As the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha continues to provide programming, the need for relevant and impactful programs is critical. STEM programming is at the heart of Amazon’s community engagement initiative. The company has partnered with BGCK to provide $10,000 to support the Club as they sustain and improve current STEM offerings in the wake of COVID-19.
Since arriving in Kenosha, Amazon has been a generous supporter of the BGCK’s STEM programs. Last year, Amazon’s support inspired kids to pursue STEM education. In addition to program support, youth from the BGCK enjoyed a tour of Amazon’s Fulfillment Facility and learned about STEM related job opportunities. The goal of the partnership is to promote interest and awareness in STEM and provide opportunities for members who might not otherwise have access to STEM programs. Amazon and the Club are committed to inspiring youth to explore STEM related careers after high school graduation. Being that girls and youth of color are underrepresented in STEM fields, programming will be culturally responsive, inclusive, adapt to meet youth where they are and offer opportunities for career exploration.
“The Club takes pride in providing unique educational opportunities to its youth and is fortunate to have the support of great partners like Amazon. Our goal is to meet the youth at their level of experience and provide a wide variety of science, technology, engineering, art, math, and literacy activities,” said Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha CEO, Jake McGhee. “The continued generous financial support will not only help young people become more effective and engaged learners, but also provide an opportunity to see themselves as the scientists, innovators, engineers, and great thinkers of the future.”
“Amazon is proud to continue supporting the great work the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha is doing to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals,” said Sage Greising, General Manager of Amazon’s Kenosha fulfillment center. “Supporting STEM education is a core focus of Amazon’s community efforts, and we’re glad to be supporting this program in the community where our Kenosha employees live and work.”
