Billy and Katie Johnson Family Named 2020 BGC Sports Family of the Year

Billy and Katie Johnson Family Named 2020 BGC Sports Family of the Year

To Be Recognized at the BGCK on March 13th

Kenosha, WI – February 4, 2021 – Each year, BGC Sports (the athletic arm of Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha) recognizes a family who has shown dedication to the program and is passionate about bettering the lives of youth through sports. The 2020 BGC Sports Family of the Year is Billy and Katie Johnson along with their children Claire and Charlie.

Both Billy and Katie grew up in Kenosha playing sports. Katie remembers attending countless sporting events with her sports editor father. After playing baseball and basketball at Tremper, Billy went on to play baseball at UW-Whitewater.

The family first got involved with BGC Sports when their oldest child, Claire, signed up for softball and Billy volunteered to be the coach. Since then, Billy has coached not only softball but also indoor soccer and basketball. The Johnson kids have participated in softball, t-ball, soccer and basketball. Katie often has sponsored BGC Sports teams through Berkshire Hathaway Epic Real Estate.

“I coach to help the kids learn the fundamentals of the game and to develop their skills,” said Billy Johnson. “Learning how to rely on your team and be a great teammate will help develop those traits for life outside of sports. I like how sports gives kids opportunities to be confident and learn how to overcome adversity.”

The family will be recognized at the BGCK on Saturday, March 13th during BGC Youth Basketball playoffs.
