Kenosha, WI – August 18, 2021 – This afternoon 100+ Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha members launched small, handmade rockets in the field north of the Club. Members assembled, decorated and named their rockets earlier this month. This event was made possible thanks to Tripoli Rocketry of Wisconsin and Jockey.
Volunteers from Tripoli Rocketry of Wisconsin, Jockey and Huntington Bank helped students construct rockets that were each 20” tall. After building them, members had the chance to push the blast-off button to send their decorated rocket up into the sky about 200 feet. Most of the rockets landed safely back to earth after a parachute was deployed.
“This was an awesome project where kids saw their hard work pay off right before their eyes,” said BGCK Director of Teen Services, Jason Justus. “Who knows, maybe some of these kids will work for NASA someday!”
Tripoli Rocketry of Wisconsin conducts over fifteen launches each year, typically held at Richard Bong State Recreation Area. More information on other launches can be found at TripoliWisconsin.org.
