Shirley Madrigrano & Natalie Lee Performing & Visual Fine Arts Foundation Supporting BGCK Grew In 2018

Kenosha, WI – January 23, 2019 – In 2016, Bob Lee Jr. and Joe Madrigrano Jr. established the Natalie Lee and Shirley Madrigrano Arts Foundation dedicated to providing creative outlets for children not interested in sports. Their mothers were dedicated to enriching not only their children, but all children.

Thanks to a generous match by Joe and Kathy Madrigrano, donations from Bob Lee Sr., Bob Lee Jr. and other supporters, the Shirley Madrigrano & Natalie Lee Arts Foundation grew by nearly 150% last year. The Arts Foundation gave a $2,500 kick back to the Club’s art programming in 2018. During that same timeframe, 614 unique Club members participated in arts programming at the Club.

New to the Teen Center in 2018 and continuing into 2019 is the Drama Matters program. A small group of teens meet twice a week to write plays, rehearse and learn about the process of plays coming to life. The program is led by Prevention & Outreach Coordinator, Wendy Johnson. Johnson, a professional children’s playwright, earned a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Utah.

“It gives the teens something to take ownership of, to be proud of and to call their own,” said Johnson, of the Drama Matters program.

Each play is about 5-7 minutes long. Often times, they’ll rehearse a play that Johnson wrote, and eventually the teens will rehearse and perform plays that they will write themselves. The group plans on performing in front of their peers and in front of the Troha Youth Center members.

Those who are interested in contributing to the Shirley Madrigrano & Natalie Lee Arts Foundation can mail a check to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha (1330 52nd St., Kenosha, WI 53140) and specify Arts Fund in the memo.
