Youth of the Year

Jameisse Sims – 2011 Youth of the Year

Every year, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha selects one of our outstanding youth, who has excelled in the areas of dedication to service, academic commitment, strength of character and future goals.  Many of our honorees have overcome major obstacles in their lives, making their successes all the more special.

The person we honor as Youth of the Year 2010-2011 is truly an extraordinary young woman.  She has been chosen for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community. As the Youth of the Year for Kenosha, she is among hundreds of local youth across the country recognized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America . The Youth of the Year program was founded over 60 years ago through the generosity of the Reader’s Digest Foundation. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

Jameisse Sims has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha since she was eight years old. Her strength in leadership can be seen both inside the Club and in the community. She volunteers, tutors and she is a freshman mentor.  She is an outstanding role model at the club and mentors younger members so she can give back to them the experiences she had at their age. While at the club, she always displays her outstanding leadership skills, compassion and energy. While some young women may succumb to peer pressure, Jameisse demonstrates leadership skills by telling the other teens to be respectful and participate.

Jameisse is focused on school and getting into the right college so she can pursue her dream of being a pediatrician. Besides coming to the Club and participating in programs and being an excellent role model to the younger members and her peers, Jameisse is an honor student who maintains a 3.0 GPA. She is an accomplished flautist; she has participated in band, sports, and choir to name a few of her activities.

Although she had some obstacles growing up she has always strived to be the best at everything she decided to pursue. She has had the courage to take the opportunities given to her and use them in a positive way.

The Youth of the Year program is the premier youth recognition program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  It promotes and celebrates Club members’ service to the Club, community and family values, academic performance, strength of character, life goals, poise and public speaking ability.  The Youth of the Year program is sponsored locally by the generous assistance of the Kenosha Area Noon Optimists Club.

Jameisse was awarded this honor at the 2011 Youth of the Year Banquet, held February 10, 2011 at Madrigrano Marina Shores.  Also recognized for their service the youth of Kenosha were:
