Kenosha, WI – August 23, 2018 – The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha’s Lincoln Park Summer Program will conclude with a celebratory carnival tomorrow from 2 – 5pm at Lincoln Park. Volunteers, community partners and all those that made the program possible will be recognized at the carnival.
Several companies and organizations contributed to the successful program, which averaged 45 kids per day and served over 200 different kids throughout the summer. The program is free to attend and was open Monday through Friday from 12pm – 6pm.
Niagara donated water bottles. KAFASI sent volunteers to supervise and engage with the kids. UW-Extension provided fun and educational classes focused on health eating, gardening and nature. The Kenosha Public Library donated books for the reading nook, sent the bookmobile and provided weekly programming focused on science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). The Kenosha Public Museum conducted monthly hands-on educational programming for youth by bringing the museum to Lincoln Park. Lastly, the Kenosha Police Department sent Officer Dan and Officer John to hang out with the kids each day, giving the kids a chance to have positive interactions with police officers.
Daily activities included basketball, kickball, arts and crafts, games, educational activities and more. Free lunch was served daily and all who attended Lincoln Park received a free yearly membership to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha.
“This has been our third successful summer program at Lincoln Park,” said BGCK CEO, Jake McGhee. “It’s not only a fun program, but it’s enrichment based and educational. It’s awesome that we are seeing many of the same kids that joined us in year one still attend the program today.”
